Grant to Support Inclusive Community Initiatives in Michigan (USA)
GrantID: 74637
Grant Funding Amount Low: $250
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $2,500
Summary
This grant opportunity supports programs advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within a cluster of counties in the northern Midwest and a neighboring sovereign tribal nation. Funding is targeted to nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies and tribal entities working in areas such as Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties. Rather than offering general unrestricted grants, this program seeks proposals that specifically elevate communities historically marginalized or underrepresented—including people of color, Indigenous populations, immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, neurodiverse residents, veterans and people with disabilities.
Applicants may request modest funding of up to a few thousand dollars per calendar year, and the total amount available to any single organization cannot exceed that limit. Schools and related groups may apply separately within the same district, provided students take part in drafting the request. Funds may cover operational support for community-based organizations, events that raise awareness about diverse populations, initiatives that increase the visibility and effectiveness of marginalized groups, equity‑focused programs and projects, or training opportunities related to diversity and inclusion. A preference is given to trainings led by facilitators from the community being served. Proposals from individuals or for‑profit entities are not eligible, and the program does not provide personal grants.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly by a committee representing varied lived experiences from across the region. Application deadlines typically fall in late autumn, winter, spring and summer. Prospective applicants can choose between submitting a written application through the grants portal or providing a brief video response that addresses organizational and project alignment with equity and inclusion goals. Successful applicants are required to submit a report within a year documenting how the funds were used and the impact achieved. The program is designed to encourage collaboration and to amplify the voices of communities that have historically been overlooked.
